Nu Metro at the V&A makes my blood boil

This has been eating away at me for quite some time now… I HATE the Nu Metro cinema at the V&A Waterfront!!!   The only reason I continue to go there is because it is conveniently located as I and most of my friends live in town.

This past weekend I was there again and as always I was seriously irritated.  Hey, at least they are consistent right! haha. ;)

First off the ladies toilets there are totally manky. There’s hardly ever any toilet paper, it’s dirty, half the taps don’t work and I just can’t stand having to go in there in general.

Then their self-service ticket machines NEVER work.  This past weekend for example I wasted about 15min going from machine to machine, just to find that none of them actually worked.   The most annoying part is that it takes you through the entire selection & puchasing process and then bombs right at the end when you have to swipe your card.  Aaarggghhh!

You’re always left worrying that maybe the transaction did go through and now you run the risk of getting duplicate transactions on your card.  Some of the card readers are actually held together with tape, yes tape!  Seriously, you guys don’t make enough money to fix it properly!?!   I mean at R45 a ticket and those out of this world prices for drinks & snacks, you would damn well think you do…

I tried to warn as many people as I could that the machines were a waste of time, but as I stood in the crazy long queue for normal ticket purchases, I saw sad person after sad person going through the exact same pain as I did.   The least Nu Metro can do is put bloody “Out of Order” signs up.  Or if you really don’t care about maintaining them, just rather take them down.

When I finally got to the front of the queue, I asked the guy behind the counter whether I could speak to a manager about the broken machines.  His response was: “Ag, these managers don’t care.  Lots of people complain and its just always broken.”  Nice… real nice…

As for the cinemas themselves, I’ve been in some ones there where you hope and pray the lights don’t come on before you leave…  because you don’t want to see what you’ve been sitting on for the last 2 hours…  blegh!

The V&A Waterfront is a world class shopping & entertainment area.  People from all over the world come to Cape Town to see it.  I think the Nu Metro Cinema totally lets them down.  It’s an embarrassment.  If I ran that place, I would tell them to either shape up or ship out!

Anyhoo, I just really needed to let all of that out.  My inner rage was starting to make my eyes twitch.  I feel sooooo much better now, thanks for listening guys. :)

  1. Totally agree. I go there about once a week. If there was another option I would go to another place. But agree that it’s convenient. Posted this to Twitter & Facebook tagging V&A & Nu Metro.
Let’s hope they; Firstly, pick it up. The secondly care enough to do something about it.

    • Sadly, it really doesn’t seem like they care at all. A friend of mine knows one of the managers at Nu Metro and passed my link onto him when I posted this… Nadda… not even a “we’re looking into this” email in response. Very frustrating. But thanks for spreading the word though. ;)

  2. Those bathrooms are disgusting.. I can never understand why, as they normally have someone hanging out looking like they could be in charge of ‘cleaning.’ Other then that they really need to get their act together on pretty much everything. Lines for days! Only saving grace is half price Wednesdays and that snack trolley they roles out that I wait for to avoid the que. Gap in the market for new cinema company?!?

  3. The last time I was there I was excited to see that they had upgraded the cinema yet the poor service is shocking and the place is still filthy. On top of that the new cinema seats are too low and as a result short people like me cannot see over the top of the seat in front. I won’t be going back there anytime soon!!!

    • That place is a total write off in my opinion. They seem to genuinely not care about customer service in the slightest. They must be paying some crazy rent to the V&A for them to be keeping them on…

  4. I haven’t been to the Nu Metro at V&A in about 5 months… I’m committed to the Labia. It’s cheaper, easier to get to and so much more laid back and intimate. Plus you can take a beer into the movie…

  5. Last time I was there I had a fairly nice time, until I got up and felt the then damp seat of my pants. A mixture of bleach and pee, you know when you smell your hand real close and it ain’t popcorn salt? Was planning on having a drink after but went straight home. What worries me is that while I didn’t smell it during the show, I had a cold, and the person sitting in the next seat was probably judging me. They must’ve thought I was Ard Matthews or something smelly.

  6. I completely agree, I was there on Saturday to watch a fairly recent movie and we were in the tiniest cinema, it was disgusting, old and the entire place reeked of urine. I suspect someone actually did urinate in one of the seats further down as they had it covered in plastic. If that happen the least management can do is warn people, imagine sitting in a movie for that long with that smell it was disgusting, and when we complained we got a pathetic “we are sorry”. I feel exactly the same, what’s the point in having a world class shopping centre, with the likes of Jimmy Choo and Louis Vuitton in ur centre when u have urinate plagued cinemas! Management seriously need to do something, I am definitely boycotting their movies!

    • OMG! That is truly shocking… that’s an all new low for them… thanks for sharing that info. I’m thinking of sending them my link, maybe they will try to do something about it. Then again, if I have to judge by the attitude of the staff at the cinema, that’s really doubtful… aaargggh.

  7. Yeah, Darryn & Ernst were telling me on Twitter about their bad experiences with that as well… Similar things has happened to me too, but in my rage I forgot to mention that! haha ;)

  8. And I can’t remember a single time when someone hasn’t stuffed up the projection for a least a couple of minutes into the trailers. Thankfully only a couple of times have they screwed up going into the movie.
