So I only found out that I was going to be attending the J&B Met at the very last minute, but I still wanted to at least attempt to work with the “Made different” theme. I figured a fascinator would be the easy way to go. (doesn’t that word just give you the urge to say “daaahling” after it?)
I was planning on doing a quick Canal Walk run, hitting your usual accessories spots. But then my darling friend Charlene put me in contact with a Carrie from Carrie B Accessories. After quickly scanning her website, I knew in my heart that I wasn’t going to find anything in Canal Walk that was going to come close to her stunning pieces. So I headed over to her place in Vredehoek to see what she could help me with.
Walking into her little workshop was very exciting cause she has so many pretty, girly things to oooh and aaaah over. Like these gorgeous hair clips:
Masks which makes the ones I saw in Venice look blah:
Some seriously stunning bridal items:

And you can even have your very own Sex & the City moment with that bird headpiece Miss Bradshaw wore for her wedding in the first movie:
The really nice thing is that you can also get Carrie to make you a custom piece. You can have a look at her website for ideas and then tell her what kind of item you are looking for. Price will depend on how elaborate the design is, but you can give her your budget and she will work with you to get the most bang for your buck.
My fascinator for example cost me R300. Her masks can cost up to R800 (depending on how over-the-top you want to go), the same for her other headpieces.
Here’s a close up of my new baby:
I thought R300 was a really great price seeing as I would have likely paid over R200 at Accessorize in any case and then you run the risk of everyone wearing the exact same thing. This baby was one of a kind and the love and care she puts into her pieces is very impressive.
Then look at the pretty little box she packed it in:
Check out her website or her Facebook page for more of her work. I promise you you’ll be trying to come up with reasons for why you need one of her fabulous headpieces. Or why not just get one and keep it on hand in case of a fascinator emergency?
