On Mon eve, instead of doing my usual Mon routine which pretty much involves pajamas and bad TV, I got dressed up and headed on over to The Reserve for a party referred to as “Red Monday”.

The party was to the launch Red Bull‘s three new Special Edition Flavours:

• The Red Edition: Cranberry
• The Blue Edition: Blueberry
• The Silver Edition: Lime

And check this, while we were partying away here in Cape Town, 3 other cities were doing exactly the same thing at exactly the same time.  That’s a lot of people out on a Mon eve – not something I’m used to at all…  We could check in with Johannesburg, PE & Durban through a live Twitter feed which was screened inside – everyone was asked to use the #RedMonday hash tag.

I must say the turnout was very impressive, especially for it being a very definite non-party evening for the Mother City.  And everyone added their little splash of red, white or blue to their look as asked on the invite.  Clearly a lot of people wanted to try out these new flavours.  Or maybe, just maybe, it was a case of the FOMO just being way too strong for people to stay on the couch.

So my thoughts on the new flavours?  Well firstly I’m going to admit that I’m not a big fan of the original Red Bull flavour.  I’ll drink it, mostly with Vodka and at a music festival.  Cause that just seems to be what everyone does, right.  But I don’t love the taste.  As for these new flavours:  I also don’t really like the cranberry, but some other folks around me were raving about it.  The lime is very nice, quite subtle & fresh.  But my favourite by far was definitely the blueberry.  So that will be my new vodka music festival mixer of choice.  Done deal.

If you see them around, do give them a bash and let me know which one’s your favourite.  Just beware of the energy punch, it’s quite hectic.  I stupidly had a couple (to do a proper tasting of course), which meant sleep was just not going to happen after that.  I felt like a little owl with by big eyes all through the morning hours.

Before I go, happy Friday everyone!  I hope you guys have a fantastic weekend.  Gonna be hot, hot, hot on Sun apparently, so I’m planning on getting a bit of sun on my skin to slightly improve on the lovely dead blue’ish colour I’ve turned over these past winter months.  Not sexy…
