The Japanese platter at Willoughby’s

Willoughby’s is my favourite Cape Town sushi spot.  Period.  Yes, they are pricey.  But you always get the freshest & best ingredients.  And yes, their sushi pieces are quite big.  But that’s easily solved by just asking them to cut your sushi roll into 10 pieces rather than 8.  Everyone knows I just loooooove them. :)

BUT, one thing I’ve always looked at on the menu and never ordered because of it’s price is their Japanese Platter for R399.  It’s usually shared between 2 ppl and I guess I was just always nervous that compared to it’s price, it would disappoint.  Then the other night we happened to be 3 ppl with smallish appetites, so we figured why not a 3 way split?  Easier on the pocket and we get to give it a test drive.  Done!

When it arrived, we were very very excited to start digging in.  Look at this awesomeness:

There’s some edamame beans, chicken skewers, grilled beef fillet with a potato rosti, 2 salmon roses, sweet & sour kingklip, salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, 4 california rolls topped with creamy tempura shrimp & 2 spicy prawn inari rolls.

It was pretty impressive and everything on there was really tasty.  It was such a great way to try things I would normally never opt for.  Like the beef fillet for example, that was amazing, but I normally never even look at their hot dishes, I just go straight for the sushi.  Now I certainly have a few extra things to consider for my next visit.

I do still feel that the R399 price tag is a bit pricey.  But I’d say if you’re in the mood to try a whole bunch of things, then go for it.  Flavour wise you’ll be very happy.

Oh and before I go, our waiter also pointed out some new menu items.  Not sure how new they are exactly, but they all sound pretty damn good:

Mmmmm. Hungry now…
