My super split second Clifton Shores moment

Haha… Leigh and I have been waiting for this moment for well over a year now, ever since she spotted us on a Clifton Shores promo she found on Youtube:

Ta da!  That’s Leigh on the left and me on the right, with our mates Jon Jon & Benny in the mix and one of the cast members, Destiny Moniz, bustin’ out some moves in the middle.

But how did this come about?  Well… we went to this amazing Peroni Yacht party towards the end of Feb last year, yup back in 2011, and they happened to be shooting for Clifton Shores at the same party.  After our promo cameo we’ve been super excited to see if we made the cut to the actual episode they shot that day as well.  Then finally this past Tue, it aired in all it’s glory. ;)

First there was me enjoying an ice cold Peroni (it being a Peroni party and all):

And then Leigh’s gets some face time too:

Even though this all happened over a span of like a second, I can still say: “kyk ma, ek was op TV!:)

This almost beats my Huisgenoot moment… almost.

Becoming you “What I…” feature

The lovely Kathryn from Becoming you (a beautiful blog about anything from fashion to family) does this weekly ”What I…” piece featuring various bloggers.  And this week it features me. :)

Basically you have to elaborate on 5 categories:

  • What I know
  • What I love
  • What I want
  • What I wear
  • What I need

Sounds pretty simple right?  But trust me, it took some careful thought…  In the end it was actually quite a lot of fun putting my thoughts down on paper (so to speak).  If you’re interested in reading my stuffs, you can check it out over here.

A My Love Affair with Cape Town milestone…

When I published my first post about 15 months back, I hoped at least somebody would read it… anybody really… and preferably I didn’t just have to rely to my mom (who’s not all that knowledgeable on the PC front I might ad) ;)

With each month my readership grew and grew and it all got very exciting.  I really do love sharing my experiences & thoughts, but what I love and appreciate even more is all the positive feedback that I’ve received along the way.  What started out as simply a much needed creative outlet has grown into a very demanding, but incredibly fun passion project and I have all of you guys to thank!

So anyways, before this morphes into one of those beauty pageant style “world peace” speaches, hehe, let me get on with the rather big milestone (well in my world at least) which I hit yesterday.  I made it to the 1000+ mark for hits on one day:

Woohoo!

It was such an awesome feeling.  I feel like finally cracking open that bottle of Taittinger I won back it June.  Actually, I think I must…

My mood was slightly dented, just momentarily, when this morning I got a rude, abusive & totally random comment from a guy who refers to himself as “Big Boy” (alrighty then), but I’ve realised that you also sometimes have to take the bad with the good.  Such is life.  At least in this case, the good totally outweighs the tiny speck of bad.  To quote my awesome friend Lucy “I feel so much of love right now”. :)

Congrats Cape Town! You beauty…

If you haven’t already heard, Cape Town has just won the title of Africa’s Leading Beach Destination in the 2012 World Travel Awards.  Woohoo!

Now I know some of you might not think that this award is all that impressive seeing as it’s only for Africa and not the whole world.  BUT please don’t forget that we still kicked the ass of incredibly beautiful places like Mozambique, Kenya & Zanzibar to name a few – even though we have that little issue with our freakin’ freazing water.  Brrrrrr.  So ja, in my book, that’s pretty damn impressive and I’m very very proud…

To celebrate I decided to pull out two of my favourite beach pics from my personal stash.  Two photo’s which I feel show exactly why we came out tops:

Taken at this year’s Caprice Volleyball tournament

Pink sunset over Camps Bay… just doesn’t get better than that.

Again, congrats Cape Town!  Keep up the good work. :)

I’m the face of high tea at the Table Bay! (OK well just kinda)

So about two weeks back I told you about the amazing High Tea Bjorn and I got to enjoy at the beautiful Table Bay Hotel.  BUT what you didn’t know was that they also asked me to do a review for the Spring edition of their quarterly Happenings! brochure which is something that gets placed in every room at the hotel and is also circulated to all the Sun International, International Sales & PR offices. (read “major exposure” here :) )

The experience also included a fancy pants photo shoot en als!  So how could I say no…

I’ve been very excited to see the final result and this past weekend it finally arrived.  Turns out the folks at the Table Bay do absolutely everything in pure style, because they didn’t just pop me one in the mailbox, they hand delivered it (thanks to the lovely Shadleigh!) in a crisp white gift bag with a little card & personalised message.  And inside:

3 copies of Happenings! – one for me, one for my mom back in PE and not sure about the 3rd one yet. Maybe I’ll bring it into the office to show the other “technie nerds” how cool I really am. Hehe.  And then a beautiful notebook (perfect for making bloggery notes) and a whole bunch of choccie, just for me! BIG smile.

I quickly opened the first Happenings! in the bag and started paging… There I was on page 4, yeah baby:
Wait wait, of course I’m gonna have to show you a close up:
I’m clearly very chuffed with myself.  You might just find me carrying a copy in my handbag for a while.  At least it’s easier to carry around than that damn Huisgenoot. Haha.  I’m planning on blatantly bragging about this A LOT.  So if you see me around, maybe act like you didn’t see me.  It’ll be safer for you…

A huge thanks to the team at the Table Bay who made this happen.  I had sooooo much fun.  Oh and a… lemme know if you need someone to review that Executive suite.  I’ll definitely clear my schedule. ;)

YOU fashion shoot and me!

I’ve been absolutely dying to blab about this amazing opportunity I got a few weeks ago to be part of a mini fashion spread for YOU magazine.  Yes, me!

Now in my house it’s actually referred to as Huisgenoot and one thing’s for sure, once you’ve made it into Huisgenoot, you’ve like made it in life. ;)   One step better could possibly be to have your wedding or family skandaal featured in it… hehe.

Me with Chu. Love this man!!! Seriously, he is the sweetest, loveliest person you’ll ever meet. AND he loves fashion. What more could you ask for?

Lovely Janine from Being Brazen hooked myself, Leigh from Lipgloss Is My Life, Clouds from And Lollipops, Kumari from StyleSociety and Carlinn from SuperficialGirls up with a chance to work witih a man who oozes style & all things fashionable, Chu Suwannapha.  Chu actually used to work for Fairlady magazine, but he’s recently decided to join the YOU family and I’m sure he’s going to shake things up in a very good way.  His first fashion feature was to take a humble grey T shirt & show you how to rock it in 5 different ways.  He decided to use us blogger ladies to play model for the day.  Yup, pro make-up, great fashion, lights, camera & action – that was all going to be for us.  Very very cool indeed.

Now 5 great looks don’t just come from nothing people, you gotta have lots and lots of options, paired with a mountain of accessories and shoes (glorious shoes!)… and that we certainly had:

But here is the true star of the show, the grey T from Trenery (R347) – I actually really liked that it had a cool white back, made it more than just your average T shirt:

The rest of my look consisted of a very cute & girly pink belted skirt from Rt at Mr Price (R89.99), a poloneck by Kelso at Edgars (R169.95) and a nude slingbag also from Mr Price (R69.99):

Oh and then let’s not forget the shoes, probably my favourite part of the look:

Boom! These beauties are from Rage and will cost you R309.

But before we got suited up (so to speak), we had to be made be-a-uti-full.  Make up artist (and I mean artist – this lady works wonders) Algria was there to put our faces on and I loved the final result:

Very fresh & natural, but with a little extra oomph.

Chu was up next to work his magic…

And then we were ready to roll.  In-house photographer Megan Miller made me feel totally at ease.  I’m really not that comfortable in front of the camera, but she made sure I had a lot of fun.

And now for the final result… drum roll please… oh by the way, this hit the shelves yesterday, so you can buy it already, just sayin’… it’s the 30 Aug edition…

Ta da! You have to flip to page 38. Not sure if it would be on the same page in Huisgenoot as well… must still check that.

So ja, that’s my little moment of fame.  A huge thanks to Chu, Algria & Megan for making me look fabulous daaahlings.  And also to YOU magazine for a fantastic experience.  Oh and then this one’s for my mom:  Kyk ma, ek is in Huisgenoot!!!  :)

In good company…

This totally made my week… The lovely guys & gals at Xcellent Media voted me (yes, little ol’ me) as one of their Top 10 Female bloggers in SA! ** blushing BIG TIME **

Xcellent Media is an internet marketing company which was started back in 2009 and specialises in things like SEO (Search Engine Optimisation for those who hate acronyms), web design & development, hosting, copywriting and social media marketing.

They asked each of us 10 ladies to tell them a bit about how we got into blogging and then also asked us to give potential new bloggers some advice.  I was like “What? Me? Giving advice?  Now that could be very very dangerous…” :)

I had no clue who the other 9 bloggers were until the post was published on Friday afternoon.  And geeze was I surprised!  Some of the people on there are from big name blogs which I follow religiously.  Like Kim Gray for all the beautiful things my retail-therapy-addicted heart yearns for… and Hurricane Vanessa for my solid daily dose of wicked humour and general silliness.

I’ve now also discovered some new blogs that I didn’t know about, but will for damn sure be checking out from now on.  They sound amazing.

All ‘n all I just feel very lucky & honoured to have received a mention amongst a list of such inspirational women.  It has certainly given me a bit of oomph to keep this train a movin’.

You can check out the full article here:  Top 10 Female Bloggers in South Africa

A huge thanks to Xcellent Media for this little ego boost.  I will try my best to not let this go to my head… causing me to spiral into a crazy diva who doesn’t allow people to look me directly in the eye, asks people to always whisper around me as noise hurts my delicate ears and demands goodie bags filled with only the blue Smarties (which someone would obviously need to manually sort out for me).  Hehehe… ;)

Some updates…

First up, thanks to everyone who voted for me in the Boguslavsky Sisters Fashion week competition.  I won!  This means I’m going to be checking out the Thula Sindi/Ruald Rheeder show on Friday, 27July, at the Mercedes-Benz Cape Town Fashion week.  Woohoo!  I have to do some serious planning around what the hell I’m going to wear.  I’m feeling a lot of pressure to look fashion fit daaahlings…  I was really hoping that the other ticket would go to one of my supporters, but it didn’t.  It was a random draw and it went to a girl named Jasmine who voted for one of the other girls.  You guys think that’s gonna be awkward on the night? ;)

Then in other news, I was very excited about My Love Affair with Cape Town getting a honourable mention on my favourite Long St fashion boutique’s blog:

A-List is my go-to store for party dresses and if you need something to wear to a wedding, special event or even just a hot night out on the town you can pretty much bet on me directing you there as your first stop.

You can read my little piece here and also go check out their latest campaign here – it’s beautiful.

WalkedThru Cape Town

You might have noticed the new WalkedThru logo in my sidebar…  it looks just like this one here to the left.  This logo means that I’m now part of the WalkedThru blogging community.

Who/what is WalkedThru?  Well basically they search the web for blogs covering certain topics or expertise and then link these through to their site to provide somewhat of a “on-stop-shop” for all kinds of information.  You’ll find info here about anything ranging from history, sport, places to visit, fashion, hobbies, books, beauty, food… anything & everything really.

They have asked me to be their Cape Town “Walker” – that’s what they call their featured bloggers – so if people search for or click on Cape Town on the WalkedThru site, they will be directed over here!  Isn’t that cool? :)

To keep up with the WalkedThu community yourself, like their Facebook page or follow them on Twitter.

Here’s to possible new My Love Affair with Cape Town visitors.  The more people I can get to fall in love with this city with me, the better. ;)

Vote for me :)

Hey guys and girls, remember that Fashion Friday feature I was in a few weeks back on the Boguslavsky Sisters blog

Well that same blog is now running a competition where you can win a ticket to Cape Town Fashion week to watch the Thula Sindi/Ruald Rheede show on Friday the 27th July at 18h00.  All you have to do is vote for me!!! Ooooor one of 3 other lovely ladies by picking who’s got the best outfit.  But obviously you do know that mine is the best, right?. ;)

Leave a comment over here - put down the name of your top choice (this is how you spell my name ”Karisa”) and tell them why you like the (my) outfit.  Only one entry per person.

Of course there’s something in it for me as well.  The lady who gets the most votes also gets to go to the same show.  So I’ll see you there, and drinks will be on me! :)
