Get in LINE and enjoy the show

Next Wed, 18 Apr sees the opening of LINE at the Little Theatre in Orange St.

LINE is a one act comedy by acclaimed Jewish-American playwright Israel Horovitz (who has written over 70 plays during his career!). This specific play of his owns the title of being the longest running play in New York and it has already been staged in a whopping 25 countries & translated into 35 languages.  This will however be the first time that Capetonians get to experience it first hand.

So what exactly is it about?  Well the play is basically about 5 people waiting in a queue.  None of them seem to know what exactly they are waiting for, but they are all desperate to get first in line.  Things really heat up as the audience gets you watch them trying to “outwit, outplay, outlast” (my own little Survivor take ;) ) each other to try get ahead.

Leon Clingman plays ‘Flemming’, a dim-witted baseball fan. ‘Stephen’, played by Bjorn Steinbach, is the flamboyant ‘wanna-be’ genius who always seems to get first in line.  Marlisa Doubell portrays ‘Molly’, a woman who uses her sexuality to get ahead, while Gavin Werner plays her tormented husband, ‘Arnall’.  The shady ‘Dolan’ is played by Aidan Whytock and award-winning director Yvonne Copley heads up the team as director.

Sir Robert Stanford wines & Madre’s Kitchen

The last stop on our Overberg exploration weekend was Madre’s Kitchen in Stanford.  Madre’s is situated on the Sir Robert Stanford wine estate, so of course it made sense that before we got stuck into lunch, we first did a Sir Robert Stanford wine tasting.  Oh yeah…

The tasting room was honestly one of the prettiest I have seen to date.  Check it out

We got to sample two of their wines.  First their 2010 Sauvignon Blanc which sells for R85 a bottle.  And then their 2009 Shiraz which sells for R180 a botte.

The sauvignon was very easy drinking and I can highly recommend it while we’re still enjoying the last glimpses of summer.  But the real star for me was the shiraz.  I don’t know what’s been going on lately, cause normally I really don’t like shiraz.  But I’ve stumbled upon some really beautiful ones in the last 2 months.  It’s a really nice surprise.

You won’t really find these wines back in Cape Town, but if you email Alta at wines@robertstanfordestate.co.za she can organise to get your wines delivered to you.  Nice & easy.

Now Madre’s Kitchen has the most inviting outdoors dining area.  With vines draped over head…

And duckies & geese playing along side you…

I really can’t think of anything better.  Wait wait… I spoke to soon… freshly baked plaas brood with full fat butter, now that trumps everything. :)

That's about enough for me... but shame, what about everyone else?

Madre had planned a very special menu for our group and we were treated to a full 3 course spread.   At that point I figured there’s no use fighting it anymore.  I had already stuffed my face with so much food over that weekend, what difference would 3 more courses make? ;)

From left to right: Baked camembert in vine leaves, roast chicken in Hanepoort sauce and then some totally irrisitable chocolate tart with fruits & homemade ice cream. Yum!

In between meals I also quickly popped into the little decor shop which is also part of Madre’s.  This little place is like a treasure chest of wonderful little goodies:

Make a point to check it out if you're there...

So this brings us to my final pot belly update for the weekend.  The damage looked a little like this:

At that point I was so full, it felt like the food was actually pushing into my lungs! hehe. My poor little body just didn't know what to do with it all anymore...

But hey, a little extra suffering in the gym is a small price to pay for such an amazing weekend away.   I have to say a huge thank you to Nomonde from Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU) for letting me tag along for the ride. And then also to Bjorn Steinbach,Tanya Nefdt, Roxanne Cloete, Clayton Morar and Zane Maqetuka for being such fantastic travel companions.  Mwah!

Hopefully I’ve been able to share a few new things with you guys and that you’re now planning your own little trip out to the Overberg area.  Happy exploring. :)

Grootbos Forest Lodge

After a bit of an afternoon snooze (to let the wine, cheese & cured meats from our lunch with Lomond & Farm 215 settle) we headed over to the Forest Lodge for dinner.  The Forest lodge is one the amazing 5 star lodges which can be found on the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve.  The reserve is situated on a mountain slope overlooking Walker Bay and Hermanus and trust me, the views are like none other.

The lodge itself oozes elegance and “living the good life”…

You can tell that no detail was missed and no expense was spared to make sure that staying and eating here is a memorable experience.  We luckily got there just in time to watch the beautiful sunset as well:

By this point we had totally mastered the art of getting a successful group shot.  So here we all are, getting ready for the big 8 course dinner challenge which was awaiting us… lookin’ good, lookin’ strong… and lookin’ hungry!

Zane (Mr SA finalist), Sonja (Hermanus tourism), me (future princess of Monaco... what?! It could happen...), Clayton (journalist), Roxanne (Marketing Manager at Fair Lady), Nomonde (CTRU), Tanya (E News) & Bjorn (actor)

But I also had to get my own piccie with Zane.  I don’t know how this boy only came 3rd in Mr SA, he would have definitely gotten my vote for a win.  We begged him to wear his Mr SA scarf thingy to make sure people would know this was the real deal. ;)

I will admit, I was standing on my tippy toes so I wouldn't look like a dwarf next to him. He is seriously tall.

To drink we had some South Hill Cabernet Sauvignon wine from the Elgin Valley.  This was yet another beautifully smooth red which I hadn’t had the opportunity to try before.  Happiness. :)   Then we jumped right into course # 1 – the amuse bouche which was a beef carpaccio with some fancy foamy stuff:

After this hot little number I thought to myself... Hmmm, this is going to be quite a ride... nice.

Course # 2 was grilled linefish with tabouleh salad & red pepper coulis:

Course # 3 was a mushroom cappuccino:

Then we had a sorbet palate cleanser as course # 4. And at this half way point, the troops were still looking strong:

Course # 5 was gnocchi with nutmeg & macadamia nut pesto:

Course # 6 was dukkha spiced lamb loin with olive oil mash & tapenade:

Course # 7 was dessert nr 1… yes, that’s right, we were in for 2 sweet treats!  And the first happened to be a dark chocolate tart… it was like they knew me better than I know myself. ;)

Then course # 8 was I think the star of the show for pretty much everyone at the table: Amarula set brulee:

Oh yeah baby...

Now the end of this 8 course super battle brings me to my pot belly update for day 2:

OK, the waist belts are no longer working at hiding the boep... some serious gym will definitely be required & poeple are starting to think I have a "bun in the oven".

But hell, why stop there!  We loved the food so much that we actually headed back there the next morning for breakfast. haha.  Check out my fancy pants eggs benedict y’all:

Boom!

So ja, I’d say if you’re in the area and you have a mightly appetite, definitely pop in here.  You won’t regret it, trust me.

Cave exploring @ De Kelders

After our forest walk on Sat, we headed over to De Kelders to check out some caves.

Now the original plan was actually to do some shark cage diving (with Gansbaai of course being the hot spot for it).  But sadly the weather didn’t play along and the waves were too high to take us out.  Sure, I was bummed – having packed a nice meaty steak to feed the sharks with and everything.  I even considered having a “sad shark” T-shirt made, like so:

Ag shamepies... I feel your pain dude, you've just been given a bad rep... I totally get it.

But after like 5min I was all smiles again, cause they had already lined up plenty of other cool things for us to do.   This cave expedition thing being just one of them.  On the way down to the caves we stopped to have a look at what they call “wild dagga”… apparently you can smoke it, but it’s totally legal… hmmm… interesting:

Leonotis leonurus - also knows as Lion's Tail or Wild Dagga. Native to SA and Southern Africa. Known for it's medicinal & mild psychoactive properties. Thanks Wikipedia! I'm sure Billy (our guide) told us all of this as well, but I am really poor at paying attention for extended periods of time... I think he lost me at "dagga"...

The De Kelders shoreline is absolutely incredible.  I mean just check out the perfection in this photo:

Absolutely zero post editing on this shot, I promise.

We got to check out the Drip Cave (named after the dripping water inside).  We were actually very lucky to go inside because it’s not open to the public.  Ooooh aren’t we fancy. ;)   I was concerned mainly about 3 things:

  1. I’m pretty night blind.  So I don’t do well in dark spaces.  Luckily we were each given a little LED flashlight. Sweet.
  2. I’m claustrophobic, so didn’t want to have to climb through any tiny holes or anything.  Luckily they assured us that this would not be the case.  Sweet again.
  3. I’m not a huge fan of bats.  I have this massive fear that they’re going to fly into my fair and get all knotted up in there.  But apparently that’s a total myth…  hmmm, wasn’t 100% sold on that one.

Upon entering I made sure I was walking behind the tallest person there (sorry Zane) cause I figured if the bats were going to attack, they’d get him first and then I’d have time to make a quick exit.  Hey, don’t judge me… it’s survival of the fittest out in the bush! PLUS Zane doesn’t have looooong hair to worry about like me. ;)

Luckily though the bats were quite chilled and I actually felt quite at ease.  It was probably mostly because it’s so calm and pretty in there.  Lemme show you:

Bjorn chillin' in front of some crystal clear water.... ah bliss...

Colourful rocks... stalactites & stalagmites... (OK, I had to Google those terms - I used "pointy thingies in caves" as my search term. It was surprisingly successful.)

Back outside, Billy showed us how to make a vuvuzela out of some dried out kelp.  Zane was the first one to give it a bash… he gave it all he could as you can see in this pic:

You can do it Zane!

Other peeps decided to do some serious chillin’ on the rocks…

Tanya, Lunga (our awesome driver) and Clayton... workin' it...

We did a bit of a walk and some minor rock climbing to get to the other side of the little cliff area we were in.  From here we could see plenty more caves which one could explore:

I see... I see...

Sadly we were on a bit of a tight schedule.  So we had to get movin’.  But at least now I know where they are – if I ever get back to that area, I’m going to check them out for sure.  I mean people used to live there, like way way way back when.  They have found bone tools, stone artefacts and even human remains in these caves… I find stuff like that very interesting.

Oh also good to know, this is apparently a great spot for whale watching from Sep to Nov.  Just one more awesome reason to take a trip out there. :)

We’re only about a third through day 2 of the Gansbaai weekend now…  much more to come.

Gansbaai adventure – The kick off

This past weekend I was a seriously lucky girl – I got to tag along for an action packed weekend to Gansbaai and it’s surrounding areas (also known as the Overberg – just FYI) thanks to the lovely people at Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU) – the marketing organisation for Cape Town & the Western Cape.

How did this come about?  Well Bjorn met them at an event a while back and thanks to his charismatic charm, they thought of him when putting together this weekend which was aimed at introducing people to all the amazing places to check out and things to do, without having to travel very far.  Of course me being the bestest, awesomest, most fun girlfriend in the world, I couldn’t exactly be left behind. ;)

Other fabulous folks who came along for the ride were Tanya Nefdt from E News, Fairlady’s Marketing manager Roxanne Cloete, journo and celebrity blogger Clayton Morar and hunky Zane Maqetuka who just came 3rd in Mr SA.

During the 2 1/2 hour drive from Cape Town the gang got some time to get to know each other.  Actually looking back, I think that only took about 5min after which we all felt comfortable enough to let our inner craziness hang out. hehe.  Love it.  I could tell at that point that this was going to be one hell of a weekend.

Our first port of call was a little restaurant called B Blondes in Gansbaai.   It’s a very cute little spot with a bit of a brasserie feel with lots of dark wood furniture and a really nice old school bar.

We immediately jumped into “happy snapping” mode – all in attendance clearly loving the camera. :)

Zane & Tanya workin' it

Me with "laugh a minute" Clayton & Roxanne

We even attempted a BIG group shot.  But as you can see, it was quite hard to get all the different strong-willed personalities to all focus at the same time.

From left to right: Glenda from Gansbaai tourism, Nomonde from CTRU, Zane, Tanya, Clayton, Roxanne, me & Bjorn

Now let’s get down to the serious stuff… the food.  Bjorn was the only one smart enough to go for a starter.  I love how small towns don’t do any skimping on servings, here even a starter is a whopper of a meal.  Check out this beef carpaccio:

This is on a big plate people... we all had serious food envy... but I was lucky enough to get a bite and it was delish.

For mains people went for a wide variety of hearty “comfort food” options:

From left to right: Grilled baby chicken, ribs and calamari & hake combo.

More chatting, laughing & wine drinking followed.  We got so brave that at one point we even considered doing some karaoke at a local pub.  Ideas after a few bottles of wine are NEVER good ones.  They seem to be absolutely brilliant at the time, but don’t fool yourselves, they aren’t. :)   Luckily some sanity prevailed and we decided to rather settle in at our accommodation as the next day promised to be jam-packed.

Then this part is just to brag, but once we had checked in at our accommodation (which I’ll tell you about in my next post) we decided to play some darts.   Seems I’m pretty damn impressive with wine pumping through my veins cause I busted out a bullseye.  Here is the proof:

BOOM! And nooooo, I did not simply place the dart there. I was way too sozzled to think of something that clever. ha!

After that moment of pure awesomeness, I decided to quit while I was ahead and my head hit the pillow… hard.

Now this was a weekend which included a lot of eating.  Therefore I decided to leave my normal eating  / no eating obsessions at home (just this once) and totally overindulge.  I will be showing you a very scientific depiction of how my pot belly progressed over the weekend.  Here are the results after day 1:

Things are still OK at this point... it's still totally manageable with a bit of extra time in the gym...

More to come on day 2 & 3.

Oh PS:  You can follow Cape Town Routes Unlimited on Twitter here.   And while you’re at it, you can follow me too! HERE.  (Shameless punt for myself there as well.  Cause hat’s just how I roll…)

Sun, sand & some serious competition

This past Sat, 24 teams battled it out for the prestigious annual Café Caprice Volleyball tournament trophy.

Prizes included Sunglass Hut sunglasses, Havaianas vouchers and Havana Club beach kits.  But the true prize of course is the bragging rights.  :)

The lovely people from Caprice made sure people were refreshed, well fed and sun protected with yummy Red Bull mocktails being served at the beach bar, tasty mini burgers (which I missed sadly cause I only got there too late) and lovely ladies walking the beach handing out free sunscreen.

Weather wise it was the perfect day -  slightly overcast which gave you some relief from the sun every now and again, but still nice and hot.  The following 2 pics set the scene quite well:

Stunning right?  The beauty of our beaches continues to blow me away.  They are truly world class and in my personal opinion (and experience) totally trumps even those of Brazil and Thailand.

Anyhoo, the tournament consisted of 5 a side games, scheduled for 2 sets of 7min each (with the teams swapping sides after the 1st set).  My boy Bjorn and his friends, known as the Virgin daiquiris started out very strong, cruising through the early rounds without really breaking a sweat.

In between games Bjorn even made some time to do some Sunglass Hut marketing. (I think we was trying to ensure free sunnies whether they won or not. That’s good planning. ;) )

The sunscreen is supposed to say "SGH" for Sunglass Hut of course

Team spirits remained high as they blew the competition out of the water and made it to the quarter finals with ease…

It was easy to see why though.  Just check out that defense!  Nothing was gonna get past this team:

The Virgin daiquiris was the only team who had as many as 3 ladies in the team.  Some might say that was a risk, but I say that’s what gave them the edge.  Just look at Karin’s impressive smashing skills for example:

You might be thinking “Hey K, why weren’t you in the team? You seem fit and amazing and gorgeous and stuff…” ;)    Well you see, I have a “volleyball disability” – from a very young age I was the ball-smashed-in-the-face girl.   And no, I’m not talking about those kind of balls.  Get your minds out of the gutter.  I’m obviously referring to balls used in sports.  For example, I could be in a crowd of like a thousand people.  There would be no ball in sight.  I’d turn around and then – WHAM – right in the face.  My mom’s dreams of me becoming a SA netball champion were crushed.  Due to this problem, I now flinch just at the mention of the word “volleyball”.  This clearly equates to pretty crappy playing skills.  So there you go… my truly sad back story… sob sob…

Back to the tournament, there was also a prize for the best dressed team.  Some folks went all out, like these dudes who looked like they were wearing pajamas:

They must have been bloody boiling! Bjorn's friend, Nick, noted that it would be pretty damn embarrassing to loose against a team wearing PJ "onesies". I thought he made a very good point...

The guys who took the prize in the end were these brave, leopard print legging clad gentlemen:

Like totes hot right now...

The daiquiris didn’t have time to play dress up – they were there for one thing and one thing only… winning!  They smashed through the quarter finals and then the semi-finals and winning scores like this one just became the norm really:

My pic of the day has to be this one.  Love how the clouds in the sky was doing this awesome striped effect:

Love how Jared also looks like he's about to do a very intricate dive maneuver. Score? Perfect 10!

Throughout the tournament, Bjorn certainly proved that white men can in fact jump… even when you’re not totally blessed in the “beanpole” arena.

Some seriously slick moves there...

In the end, not even the finals was a threat for the Virgin daiquiris’ kick-ass skills.  They came out on top, smiling all the way.

Let’s take a closer look at that beaut of a trophy:

Oooooh aaaaaah

Well done guys!  Obviously you couldn’t have done it without my support though.  So if anyone wants to gift one of those free pairs of sunnies, please feel free. :)

Who knows, maybe I’ll get over my ball-in-the-face fear and give this a bash next year.  Then again… that would require a lot of practice… hmmm… I’m more of a chillin’ with cocktail in hand girl… nah, rather just play to my strengths.

Veuve Clicquot Masters: The Recap

This past Saturday was just one of those days that couldn’t possibly have turned out any better.   I must hand it to the Vivid Luxury team, they sure know how to put together one hell of an event…

My dress for the event was from a little shop in Canal Walk called Daisy Island (which is now closed sadly) – it’s that dress that you can wrap and twist into like 20 different styles, it’s pretty awesome.  And then I was rocking another lovely fascinator by Carrie B, check it out:

The venue for the event was the Val de Vie estate just outside Paarl.  The absolute gorgeousness of this place actually can’t be explained in words.  So I’m going to let the following images set the scene:

Bjorn was lucky enough to score two VVIP tickets, which according to Google stands for “Very Very Important Person” – and boy did they go out of their way to make you feel like one.  Of course, being a Veuve Clicquot event one major perk was fabulous French champagne flowing all day long!

Oh yeah... come to mama...

Food wise we also got seriously spoilt, with dashing young gentlemen working their way through the crowd.  Each time passing with something even more enticing than before:

You can just leave the tray, thx!

As (let’s face it) a polo event is really more about the fashion than the horseback action, the entertainment kicked off with a fashion show where Jenni Button and Viyella presented some gorgeous gowns & menswear from their latest collections.

You just can't beat that backdrop...

But don’t worry, there were horsies too – I can prove it. :)

As I know absolutely nothing about the game of polo, I'm just going to leave it at that...

Instead, I’m going to move on to some “happy snaps”.  Here’s me with Bjorn, who was looking very suave:

We got to mingle with TV personality & actress, Kelly Parkhurst (who is sooooo sweet) and her equally lovely fiancé, Grant, who was rocking some very brave only-real-men-wear-pink shorts.  Loved it.

Then of course also my two partners in crime for the day: Leigh & Clouds there on the right. Mwah! Love you girls.

Then the obligatory ladylike piccie before we totally overindulged in the champers and started looking um… “not so fresh”.

Gorgeous gals: Leigh, Kelly & Clouds.

But even if that DID in fact happen (never to me of course, cause I’m an absolute angel), they totally had you covered with the Elizabeth Arden pamper area where you could have your hair & make-up done:

AND as if that wasn’t enough, you could walk out there with your handbag filled with free Elizabeth Arden goodies including their famous 8 Hour cream and some Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara.  I was cursing the fact that I only brought a tiny clutch bag.  Stupid, stupid girl…

Check out Leigh - she has that crazy eye thing going on. The girl just loooves free beauty treats.

While there I bumped into darling Sarah Martin who was wearing some seriously lust-worthy killer heels:

Amazing right?

Dominiek and Kerry from The Little Hattery were also there offering up some fabulous hat & fascinator options, which in case you didn’t know is a total must for any horse related event:

These were some of my favourite pieces:

Being the total divas we are, we couldn’t resist a quick pose-off session on the red carpet:

That guy in the background was laughing his head off at us...

Back at VVIP city, we were given yet more food.  My favourite, being an Afrikaanse meisie, was the steak & chips – but a fancy version of this old classic:

Then the grand finale to blow everyone’s hair back – hot pink macaroons served on super cute individual serving trays:

Ta da!

Some fabulous people on the scene included fashion blogger, Jasna Zellerhoff aka Fashionjazz and celebrity blogger, Clayton Morar.

Lookin' good guys

Top Billing presenter, Jo-Ann Strauss was without a doubt my best dressed lady of the day.  Her look was put together by local designer Elbeth Gillis and she was a real show-stopper:

Then the beautiful Jeannie D sparkled in a sexy Jenni Button number:

And sports hotties, Ryan Botha & Ryk Neethling were there to ensure there was some eye candy for the ladies as well:

Clouds was in this photo as well... but I totally cropped her out! Bhahahahahaha. Sorry babe! I just wanted them all to myself...

All the while my very own piece of eye candy had been collecting various Veuve inspired accessories to complete his look:

Fabulous daaahling

I think it was to help him get into the zone for the big boules tournament…

Just look at that concentration. You can do it!!!

I had the VERY tough job of supporting him from my sun lounger, champers in hand…

Ah... what a tough life...

After the sun had set, me moved over to the Equus Lounge for the big after party.  Here people could let there hair down on a chandelier framed dance floor:

While being entertained by The Swing Tings:

Love this lady - gorgeous girl with an amazing voice

And who was busting out some killer moves right next to me on that dance floor?  None other than that Fresca dude, Hakeeem Kae-Kazim!  You remember those ads from the 90s – “cause nothing tastes like Fresca!!!”  Of course he’s moved on to much bigger and better things since then, including roles in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Shame, not the most flattering shot for either of us. But too good a celebrity moment to pass up.

I finished off the evening chillin’ in style on a gorgeous Victorian couch with my two US buds, David & Jon Jon:

Also giving my feet a much needed rest... sjoe

Now THAT’S what you call a successful day out.  I am very impressed that I managed to last all the way through, I must be getting really party fit – which in my book is far more useful than being gym fit. ;)

This event is definitely something to look out for again next year.

The Cosmo Swimwear show

Last Tue, after the GQ Magazine pool party, we headed over to The Grand Café & Beach in Granger Bay for the Cosmopolitan Swimwear 2011 fashion show.  The theme for the evening was “sultry summer” – so I finally had an opportunity to wear this cute bright blue strapless dress I bought back in June at Zara in Rome.  Yeah! (yes – it was a bit chilly & yes – I did freeze my ass off. But no pain no gain hey.)

The venue was packed and kitted out Brutal Fruit style – as they were the main sponsor for the event – with free Brutal Fruit all night long and an awesome chill spot to put your feet up.

Katy Perry’s sexy pussycats were also on the scene to promote her new perfume, Purr:

I wear this exact outfit at home while watching TV. Such a coincidence!

The fragrance notes include:  Sweet peach nectar, green bamboo, apple, white Jasmine blossom, Bulgarian roses, vanilla orchid, amber, sandalwood & musk.  Sjoe – that’s a mouth full… And it all equated to being just waaaaaay to sweet for me. I prefer something more subtle.

Next I headed over to the Rimmel area where I was treated to some free eyeshadow & mascara.  The PE girl in me always jumps for joy when it comes to freebies.  It’s ingrained in my genetics to lap up any opportunity for free stuff, even if it happens to be something totally hideous or useless to me.  Luckily this time round, that wasn’t the case. :)

Loved the daisy lights

We settled into our seats and waited for the show to kick off.  For the show opener they got hot drumming act, 1st Project, to get the crowd going:

I'm sure there were a lot of women in the audience who didn't even realise that they were playing music. hehe

This was followed by… well… you guessed it… hot chicks wearing very little ;) :

Made me promise myself that I'm going to start taking gym seriously again

But the lovely people at Cosmo at least thought of us girls as well and made sure there were lots of guy candy to oogle as well:

Only a real man can rock a silver speedo

Mid show they had this amazing acrobatic act consisting of two super strong ladies doing all kinds of hectic balancing acts:

The boys agreed that this act was a huge turn on... wow, who woulda thought...

Now I have to admit, the lighting and our positioning did make it hard to get really good shots.  Hence the blurriness in a lot of the pics.  But I did manage to snap this pic which just worked out to be absolute perfection:

Should sell this baby to Roxy for sure...

After the show, Bjorn & Siv (amazing stand up comic, actor and all round awesome dude. You owe me big time for this punt btw Siv:) ) put some serious thought into who they thought rocked their bathing suits the best…

Swimwear judging... a tough job...

I let them do their thing while I was mingling with celebrity specialist, Clayton Morar and Mr Fitness & owner of DRANGED clothing, Jeff Tsoutsos:

After all the tough schmoozing, we hit the dance floor to bust out some epic moves.  As you’ll see from this pic below – the dance floor was buzzing:

It's rare that events like these actually get people dancing. So this was really cool to see.

My final free stuff tally for the evening also included a Sunglass Hut voucher.  I have like 4 of these now.  The real sucky thing is that you can’t use them together.  Aaargggh.  I guess I’m totally being forced into buying 4 pairs then.  Like I really needed an excuse. Ha!

My voucher and my Rimmel goodies

As I sadly had to work the next morning, we couldn’t party the night away (as much as I would have loved to)… But we couldn’t leave before Bjorn & Siv first got down to a bit of “surfing”:

This is Cape Town style surfing - you don't actually go in the water. Why? Cause it's too bloody cold, that's why! hehe

One thing’s for certain – Cosmo knows how to throw a great party.  Had such an awesome time.  Sometimes these events can end up being stuffy and boring, but this one sure as hell was anything but.

The birthday boys

Last Thursday was an evening of birthdays and birthday boys. ;)

Birthday boy # 1 was the hottie on my arm (and proud owner of a super cool new WeWood watch), Bjorn Steinbach:

Bjorn’s not big on birthday celebrations for himself.  So we ended up spending the evening at two other birthday events.  Go figure hey…

The first was the glam-fabulous-party-extravaganza of SA celebrity blogger & Expresso TV reporter, Clayton Morar.   I’ve met Clayton a couple of times before at various social events and can confirm that he is an absolute sweetheart!  But OK OK, so this wasn’t technically Clayton’s birthday party, but it was the 1 year birthday celebration of his very popular website.  So for that, I’m counting him as birthday boy # 2. ;)

He pulled out all the stops for this party.  A red carpet to welcome guests, camera crews, professional photographers, goodie bags, the works!

The event took place at The Reserve in St Georges Mall in Cape Town’s city center.  I had not had the opportunity to check out this venue before, so was really excited to finally see the inside.  It really does have some impressive features:

The lights on the ceiling kept changing colours... very cool

Then this is the first bar you see when you enter the club:

Here I enjoyed some SKYY Vodka Collins cocktails – on the house. Yeah baby! SKYY Vodka was one of the many sponsors of the evening.

Have to show you guys some more venue shots because this place is just so damn cool. :) Below, on the left, is the 2nd bar – which is situated right at the back of the venue.  Loved it’s opulent feel and over the top gold trimmings.  Then on the right below is the view of the main dance floor from that bar.  The big bird cage thing is actually the DJ box:

The guest list to this little shindig included SA celebs like: TV presenter – Liezel van der Westhuizen; mean Idols judge – Randall Abrahams;  soccer hottie – Ryan Botha, contraversial cricketer – Herschelle Gibbs and Sonia and Matthew Booth – our very own soccer power couple.  Move over Posh & Becks…

Then the Swing Tings were there to entertain the crowd.  They seem to be the new “in” act of the moment.  I did some Googling and found out that they actually only launched their band in August of this year. Basically they call themselves a “live electro swing act” and they consist of SAMA nominee Lu Chase and French Producer / DJ, Infrared.   I saw them perform for the first time at the CK Shock perfume launch back in September.  I didn’t even realise at that point that they were still such a new act, because they area really really polished.  Nice one guys.

Anyhoo, the evening evolved and we got to mingle with some interesting folks, but unfortunately we couldn’t stay too late as there was still one more party to get to…

Birthday boy # 3 was comedian Siv Ngesi and he was having his party at the Fez.  How do I always end up at that venue!?!  Luckily, because the crowd pretty much consisted only of Siv’s friends, we had quite a jol. Sjoe. :)

There's Siv on the left... looking as happy as can be...

The music was great for a change, which meant we could bust out some seriously cheesy moves and dance the night away… Well, that was until I couldn’t walk anymore.  You see, I had made a poor choice in shoe for the evening.  Sure, the shoes were seriously hot and I got lots of compliments.  But the general rule with shoes are:  The better they look, the more they bloody hurt!  No pain, no gain I guess…  But I started off the evening gliding across the floor in total elegance… and ended off by moving like someone needing a Zimmer frame. hehe.  Final score for the evening:  Shoes 1 – Me 0. :(

That actually got me thinking.  There should be a service where hunky guys carry girls to their cars or taxis – letting you take your shoes off and give your feet a rest.  It’s plain genius I tell you!!!

Thanks to all 3 boys for letting me share their special night with them.  Had a blast.  And have almost got the feeling back in my feet…. almost…

Cosmo puts on one hell of a show!

On Thu eve I attended the Cosmopolitan SA Lingerie fashion Show 2011.   How did I get in exactly?  Well the lovely Bjorn Steinbach sorted out an invite for me.  You see he got invited because he is Cosmopolitan’s very own Mr December on their 2011 Sexy Man calendar, check it out:

Hotness. AND December happens to be my birthday month! Bjorn's not just a pretty face, he's a talented actor. Go check out his IMDb link above to see what he's worked on.

The event took place at the amazing Upper Eastside Hotel in Woodstock.  I had no idea this place even existed, and I was blown away at how impressive this venue was.

There were lots of little stands where you could peruse through sexy lingerie.  Revlon offered mini makeovers and you could even have your photo taken with some Wonderbra hotties.  Triump went for a “live display” option:

Wait, those mannequins move! ;)

I picked up my complimentary Absolut Vodka coctail and we went off to do a bit of exploring and mingling before we were asked to take our seats for the show.  We were very lucky to have 2nd row seats, just look at how excited we were:

Ready to see some hot chicks in some hot lingerie... oh yeah.

The show featured all of the lingerie ranges from the September 2011 Cosmopolitan Lingerie feature.  This included some sexy items from Wonderbra, La Senza, Jockey, After Eden,  Temptations, Shelley, Edgars Free 2BU, Triump, Maidenform & Sloggi.

It opened with quite a bang – very Victoria Secret fashion show inspired, but with a SA twist:

Then Adeline Mucke (accompanied by Albert Frost) did a sexy number for us.  You’ll probably remember Adeline from the SA Idols top ten last year.   I don’t really follow SA Idols, but I was very impressed by her singing ability…  she has a great voice, and clearly she’s also a total bombshell:

I have to just show you a piccie of the stage, was so cool with these huge doors which were opened by some scantily clad muscle boys at the beginning of the show:

I must also note that the models in this show were some of the hottest women I have seen in a long time.  The line-up included big names such at Tracy McGregor & Lieschen Botes and they all made me promise myself that I will be spending way more time in the gym from now on!

From angelic whites we went to some Naughty & Nice lingerie:

Then we got to drool at the absolute hotness that is Aidan Bennetts:

Aidan is not just that hottie from Top Billing and a talented designer.  He also happens to be a Muay Thai champoin, hence the fighter themed ramp appearance.

Then there was some more hot & sexy lingerie:

A mini burlesque show:

And Arno Carstens came out to do a song:

Lastly, the grand finale, all in red:

My favourite biets, Leigh (aka Lipglossgirl) was also amongst the lucky invitees:

Bjorn surrounded by women... lucky man.

And I also got to catch up with fashion blogger, Jasna Zellerhoff (aka Fashionjazz):

Geeze that chick is tall! Poor Leila and I look like dwarves... haha

We got to enjoy some snacks and even got to bust out some moves on the dance floor before we needed to head over to the Global Party at the Fez.   Was having such a great time though, I didn’t really want to leave!

According to the invite, the event was put together by the PR people at Associated Magazines.  For those who don’t know, Associated Magazines publishes Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, House and Leisure & The Oprah magazine.  Fantastic job guys!  Was a seriously impressive event. :)

Check out the Cosmopolitan SA website for all the official event pics.

PS:  I just found a cool piccie on Thunda.com from the party:

The cutie on my left is Siv Ngesi – check him out on the new Castle Lager ad where a group of SA guys head over to London to check out how they do a “braai”.   Love it. ;)
