Everybody hopefully knows that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Right?
In support of this GHD SA came up with a brilliant idea to bring in some much needed funds. They decided to host GHD style-A-thon events across the country last Sat 1 Oct, where for only a R50 donation you could get youself looking absolutely fabulous, while supporting a great cause. I know… that’s like a dream come true!
Now I have some serious issues when it comes to the size & shape of my head. To me my head is MASSIVE (especially my forehead – I always say I can totally put Tyra Banks to shame). So because of this, I have never been brave enough to shave it all off in support of Cancer awareness. I need my long locks to disguise that damn scary head of mine!!! This is why I thought this idea was seriously brilliant. The benefiting charity was CANSA of course and basically the idea was that you could choose to either have your hair flat ironed or curled by a pro stylist. Pretty sweet.
The following shopping centres took part in the GHD style-A-thon:
• Johannesburg: Cresta Shopping Centre and Clearwater Mall
• Pretoria: Menlyn Park Shopping Centre
• Cape Town: Canal Walk Shopping Centre
• Durban: Gateway – Theatre of Shopping
I obviously headed over to Canal Walk. The place was buzzing, but luckily they clearly had a great system going, as we didn’t have to queue. Yay.
Now for years and years, I also hated my natural hair texture. I would’ve killed for dead straight hair. So I spent year in and year out straightening my hair. I even have the flat iron burns to prove it. It’s only been in the last year 2 years that I’ve embraced my natural wave. But at the moment it’s very “in” to have bouncy, loose curls like the Victoria’s Secret girls. So now I’ve become totally obsessed with getting my hair curlier again! Go figure… chicks are never happy…
My hairdresser tried to teach me how to do curls with my GHD, and I have tried to practice at home, but my curls just end up looking like poo. I get like one right on my entire head, the rest just looks either straighter than before or like a bird flew into it and started nesting. Not a good look.
So obviously I asked my stylists to make me look like Giselle!
The girls used this GHD Final Fix Hairspray to keep my curls in place. I was really stressed out at first… because my only experience with hairspray to date has been with that stuff that ensures that your hair doesn’t move a milimeter, even if you’re standing right in the middle of a bloody tornado! haha. But I was very relieved to see that this product still left lots of movement and it wasn’t sticky or smelly at all.
So are you ready to see the final result? Here’s me wiith my darling stylistas, Simoné & Gayle, rocking my fabulous curls. Ta da!!!
Thanks again girls. I was totally ready to go cause some trouble. Not that I ever need an excuse, but it’s just so much more fun when your hair is looking great.
Well done to GHD for pulling off such an amazing event. You guys did an incredible job for CANSA. And it was really great to feel a part of something with so much purpose.
