Last week Thursday I attended the new menu launch of Bistro 1800˚ which is situated at the beautifully elegant Cape Royale Hotel & Spa over in Green Point.

Now as far as launches and events go, this one was certainly a goodie.  Think flowing drinks all night long thanks to the folks at Nitida Wines, mini massages thanks to the Equinox Spa team (click on the link for my review of their spa), oysters and canapes at the VIP Sky Bar, followed by a 3 course sit down dinner, and out the door with a goodie bag filled with lots of little treats like some TRIBE Coffee and more (TRIBE has recently partnered with Bistro 1800˚, just so you know).  Oh AND they also threw in a grand tour of the hotel, including their luxurious suites…

It was a jam packed evening, filled with great folks and great conversation and I woke up the next morning with a glorious hangover.  Let’s just say Friday at the office was loooooooong & painful, but all worth it of course. ;)

Now let me share my evening with you in pictures (and some words).

First we have one of their 2 bedroom suites.  The place is bigger than my apartment, the kitchen is kitted out with anything you might need (including a dish washer) and on your first night, you’re treated to the most special turn down service I think I’ve ever seen:

caperoyale2

caperoyale3

That’s right folks.  A monkey… a freakin’ monkey made out of a bath towel!  (If I got one of those, I’d be the happiest chappy ever)

Then we moved up to the VIP sky bar where we watched the sunset while enjoying some bubbly, those mini massages I mentioned earlier and even some live music.

Then we headed back down to Bistro 1800˚ where we got to sample a selection of dishes from the new menu:

My favourite things were the chicken salad, both meat dishes and that orange infused chocolate mousse.

Jonathan & George say they set out to create a menu that is hearty with lots of comfort food options and dishes which are authentic, homely & uncomplicated.  They’ve always been known for their steaks and the new menu still has lots of succulent options to choose from.  Actually on that note, just an interesting little titbit – the bistro gets its name from their signature New York style grill, which cooks your steak perfectly at exactly 1800 degrees fahrenheit.  So now you know.  The new dishes include things like grilled loin of lamb (R135); phyllo baked Atlantic salmon (R139); Kingklip en papilote (R125) and slow roasted breast of duck (R125).

Find them at 47 Main Road, Green Point.  And to make reservations, you can make use of the following contact details:

  • Bistro 1800˚:  021 430 0506 or info@18hundreddegrees.co.za

I’m also just going to leave you with some specials currently running which are definitely worth a mention:

  • VIP Sky Bar cocktail special: R30 a cocktail every day from 3pm – 6pm (just in case you weren’t sure – this bar is open to the public, it’s not only for hotel guests)
  • Equinox Spa Mother’s Day Special: For the whole month of May – book any facial, body treatment or spa package and receive a free 30min back neck & shoulder massage or 30min petite manicure.
  • Corporate lunch special at Bistro 1800˚: Two-course lunch starting at R99.00

Thanks to everyone at Cape Royale and Bistro 1800˚ as well as Jade, Aneeqa & Leozette from Red Carpet Concepts for an amazing night out.  High 5s all round guys & girls…

Some ideas on how to celebrate Women’s day

So, are you guys doing anything special for Women’s day tomorrow?  If you haven’t got any plans yet, maybe check out these specials at 1800° at the Cape Royale in Green Point:

They had me at the chocolate bombe & 50% off cocktails… And if you’ve been clever enough to take Friday off and make it a super loooong weekend like moi, you can enjoy these specials all the way to Sunday!

Otherwise, why not pamper yourself at Dermalogica on Wembley with a 20min MicroZone treatment and get another MicroZone treatment FREE for your bestie:

And this is valid for the WHOLE month of August…

Of course you can always just do what I plan on doing… as little as possible! hehe.

So happy women’s day for tomorrow ladies.   Here are some insipirational things for you to remember on this day and for men to take note of in general :) :

Pure relaxation at the Equinox Spa

Last weekend I got treated to an amazing pampering experience at the gorgeous Equinox Spa in the equally gorgeous, 5 star Cape Royale hotel.

The best part?  I got to take my friend Dani with me! :)

Now I’ve always loved the look of the Cape Royale hotel.  The hotel was modelled after Place Vendôme which is a beautiful square in Paris which was built back in the late 17th / early 18th century, but is still in perfect shape today.  The building immediately takes me back to an amazing holiday I had in France back in 2008 and also makes me think of all things romantic, opulent & indulgent.  I’m a huge sucker for all things Parisian.  I even cried during Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris.  Gawd that movie is beautiful…  Anyhoo, I digress.

To get to the spa, you go one floor up from the hotel’s reception area.  I loved the spa’s strong monochrome look, accented with luxurious wallpaper and small splashes of red:

The treatment rooms are elegant and incredibly cosy.  You feel like you could easily just slip away into a deep sleep… dreaming of things like Dom Perignon, Crème Brûlée & Louis Vuitton bags… ah un pur bonheur.

Oooh and I was also madly in love with this mirror.  Could totally picture it in my bathroom back at home.  Too bad it was too big to fit into under my coat without looking suspicious. Bummer. ;)

We were being spoilt with a 1 hr full body Chakra hot candle massage.  Doesn’t that sound just amazing?  But before our treatment, we first got to chill in the relaxation room where Botticelli’s beautiful Venus was looking after us:

At that point we were drinking water… cause we were trying to act all healthy and stuff.

This was followed by 60min of heaven on earth.  About half way into the massage I was purrrrrring like a little kitten.  Some might call that snoring… I say… whatever. ;)   After our massage we headed back to the relaxation room and this time we opted for the champers without any hesitation.

A well deserved treat

I have to say a huge thanks to the ladies at Equinox Spa for looking after us so well.  I really can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon.  I was so relaxed, I could have been hit in the face with a rugby ball or something and I wouldn’t even have flinched.

But listen up now ladies (and gents), here’s a bit of an inside scoop:  The massage we had is not on their official spa menu.  You have to be in the know to get it.  But now you are!  The cost is R480 (that’s per person).

Then they are also currently running two really great specials at the moment:

  • 2 for 1 massage for only R400
    ** 2 x 60min swedish massage
    ** Valid Mon – Thu from 10am to 4pm.
  • 4 week chemical peel treatment for R2500 or 6 weeks for R3000
** 1 session per week, with SPF & 1 maintenance facial
    ** Nimue mild medical strenght
    ** 3 options: Glycolic, T.C.A or Chemibrasian
** Best to do these in winter as it makes your skin quite sun sensitive

To make a booking, call them on 021 430 0511 or email them at info@equinoxspa.co.za.  Come on, treat yourself, you deserve it…
