An evening of wine, hot lips & the Kama Sutra

Last Wed I attended a little evening of socialising organised by Emma King (aka @toothfairysa) – yes this is the lady who ensures everyone in Cape Town has Brite Smiles, including me! ;)   Emma’s quite the networking queen and got a bunch of lovelies together to taste some wine, discover some fun products and pick up tips on how to spice up our sex lives. (yup that’s right – but more about that later…)

One of the first people I bumped into was Willem Venter from ZED Menswear.

Willem says ZED Menswear prides themselves on working with their clients to create a well rounded wardrobe. They import all their fabrics and then everything is locally produced.

How’s this for a small world moment.  Willem is, like me, orginally from little old PE.  And his sister used to be my modelling teacher when I was but just an innocent little teenager. (OK – I was never really all that innocent. haha)  When I got home I just had to go whip out my old model book to show you guys what I looked like at the tender age of 16 doing my schmodel thing.  Check this baby out.  It’s from what I call my “sepia period”.  Giving your pics that brown tinge was like all the rage in PE at the time (and probably still is today – along with shading a heart shape around your face).  In this shot I seem to be going for a bit of a moody “nobody understands me” and “my gawd damn dress is falling off” look.  It’s classic.

Ta da! If I had to add a speech bubble there is would prob say: “Damn, I could kill for a chocolate right now…”

Anyhoo, lets move swiftly along then – I’m sure the happening PE modelling scene is just far too much for you to consume in one go. :)

Mandi Jarman from Saving Private Rhino was there to give us some background on this very important initiative which aims to protect our endangered rhinos.  They collect funds so they can do things like train game reserve staff in anti-poaching techniques, install high-tech equipment like CCTV surveilance, finance valuable poaching intelligence gathering and tracking of rhino’s via GPS.   You can help by popping over to their website and making a donation.  Every rand counts.

You can also purchase Saving Private Rhino merchandise to help support the cause.

Other people on the scene included actress and TV & radio lovely Natalie Becker, Good Hope FM DJ Ayanda Tini and my very own Clouds from And Lolllipops:

Natalie, Ayanda, Clouds

Then the hunky Dylan Savage from Live is Savage:

Love his blog. I try to read it on a regular basis. He always has some interesting inside scoops.

TV & radio star Elana Afrika, absolute sweetheart Jasna from Fashionjazz, and sexy SA model Lee-Ann Roberts:

Elana, Jasna, Lee-Ann

And then the ladies who make sure you’re looking your best at all times, the team from Just Skin Aesthetic Clinic:

Tenile, Carol (the owner) and Angela

After gulping down our welcome champers we got to play with some make-up stuffs by Maskscara.  I was particularly drawn to this caviar type nail varnish:

Doesn’t that pic in the back look good enough to eat?

And then people got freaky with these Bella Violent lips stick on lip tattoos:

Here is our model, Xavier, rocking a leopard print number (like so hot right now) along with Emma in hot pink:

You can’t see it that well on this pic unfortunately, but Emma’s have the word “Love” on it as well.

Next up we got to taste some – Madonna Wines Shiraz 2011.  Wine maker, Dimitri, told us that he classifies his wine as a very versatile lifestyle wine.

And it was delicious

Here’s Dimitri with his beautiful wife, Dimitra (I know – how random is that – they practically have the same name and she’s all the way from California):

Dimitra is also rocking a pair of glittery gold Violent lips.

But the main event for the evening was for Ms Noble (aka Irit Noble) to teach us a few new things.  She had some seriously interesting goodies in her arsenal, like this strawberries & champagne “stimulating gel”:

Hmmmm…

And then the must do bedtime read, the Kama Sutra:

A book with lots of pictures. That’s totally up my alley!

You see Ms Noble is passionate about sex education and ensuring that people are having the best possible time experimenting with different toys & techniques.  She can be booked for private parties – which would be something fun for a bachelorette jol or girls night out.  Here she is explaining the fun to be had by incorporating a cock ring into the mix:

You can see everyone is listening very intently. hehe

I also learnt that this is fact NOT a regular lipstick:

It “vibes” as Ms Noble would say

But this is a totally above board energy drink:

I see…

My own tip for getting hot & spicy with your partner?  Just serve up some of these hot sauces from Nando’s which we got to take home:

Feel the burn baby… feel the burn…

A huge thanks to Emma for being such an amazing host.  And to Ms Noble for teaching this “old dog” some new tricks. :)

Irit & Emma

This former PE “supermodel” slash alcohol promo girl (yup - was totes living the glam life back then) had a total blast. ;)

My thoughts on the Look & Feel good expo

Last Sunday I popped over to the CTICC to check out the Look & Feel Good expo.  Now I’m gonna have to be brutally honest here…  I thought in general it was a total snooze fest.  I had braved some seriously poo weather to get there and paid my R70 in the hopes of finding something magical, but instead I felt like I was just standing in a big, boring Dis-Chem store.

My main goal however was to support my darling design diva, Tatum (the gorgeous gal who designed my blog header).   Her Soulshine stand was the exact breath of fresh air I had hoped the expo would be bursting with.

Tatum had her flagship product, Soulshine Cards, on display as well as some beautiful gifting cards which are the first editions to her new venture, Soulshine Living – South African gifting.  Soulshine Living will eventually be a full gifting range, including beautiful candles and bath & body products  Look out for it in 2012.  I’ve seen a sneak peak of the packaging design and can guarantee you it’s going to be a huge hit.

Soulshine Affirmation cards in the middle (you get a pack of 36) and then some gift cards to the left & right.

At the Clicks stand, the Body Shop’s new “Baked-to-last” range poster caught my eye.  Why?  Cause it had cupcakes on it, duh. ;)

To be honest I was more interested in the cupcakes than the make up. haha

Tatum also told us to check out the Caribbean Tan display here as she was quite impressed with it (even though she has an amazing skin tone and would never need it).  So we decided to give it a bash.  My friend Nix is quite fair skinned, so we got them to do a mini demonstration on her right arm with their “Tan in a Can” aerosol product.  We were both impressed at how it didn’t smell like a cat pee’d on her arm and also the colour went on very evenly with seemless effort

The nice thing is that you can choose between 3 skin type options:  “A” for very fair skin, “B” for medium skin tones and “C” for those who want to be super dark.   The Tan in a Can product sells for only R89.99 at Clicks.  So it’s really easy on the pocket.   I think you’ll still need a friend to help you spray your back areas though.  It’s way too high risk trying to reach those odd areas by yourself.  You don’t want to end up looking amazing from the front and then dodgy from the back. haha.

Some other things which caught my eye were the self defence demonstations:

And… take that!

I think it’s very important for all women to know how to protect themselves.  I say “kick butt first and take names later”. ;)

Then I also thought the Rubybox concept was pretty cool – for R100 per month you get a monthly box filled with luxurious samples, delivered straight to your door.  This way you can try things before making a big commitment.  I like that.

It’s like a prezzie to yourself, from yourself, every month!

Then for those “frisky ladies” out there – A Pole lot of Fun! – perfect for bachelorette parties and such.  They bring their own pole and they teach you like 12 different moves.  Sjoe, you could go pro after that. Come on, these are tough economic times, a girl needs a backup plan you know. :)

Get into the swing of things…

Lastly these intriguing Violent Lips from Maskscara.  It’s basically like a fake tattoo transfer which you stick onto your lips.  They come in all kinds of crazy colours & designs.  Sure, you’re thinking where the hell would I use something like that?  I agree.  But it could be fun for a dress up party at least.  Or maybe this year’s Mother City Queer Project… Hmmmm.

Brave enough to give these a bash?  Dunno…

So… sadly… those were the only things I found remotely interesting.  The rest was just blah, blah and more blah.  On the way out we got our “goodie bags”.  This is what it had inside:

Meh…

A magazine which I know I will NEVER read, a green pencil, 3 Sunsilk conditioner samples and then tons & tons of pamphlets.  Yawn…

I don’t think I’m going to be rushing over to this expo again next year.
