All the action from the Glamour Stiletto Run (in aid of the WHEAT Trust)

IMG_0082

On Saturday morning… in the rain… a group of very brave women (and even some men) assembled at the Table Bay Hotel in the V&A Waterfront to don their best pair of heels (and by best in this instance I mean: most aerodynamic & built for speed) to take on a 100 meter stretch of treacherous cobblestone…

And why exactly would we do such a crazy thing?  Well there was amazing prizes up for grabs for the fastest stiletto sprinter in the Cape, which yes, helped with some motivation.  But the most important goal was to create awareness & collect funds for an incredible charity based over in Wynberg called WHEAT Trust (Women’s Hope, Education and Training).

WHEAT Trust is a SA Women’s Fund which aims to empowers grassroots women.  They provide grants to small Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and women who cannot get access to formal funding.  Their priority is to grant women access to information and knowledge in order to enhance and nurture their skills, and in this way they are able to support local women’s initiatives and promote a culture of giving.

Run by Glamour SA, this annual event has become quite a popular fun-filled day for which ladies start training months and months in advance to get that competitive edge. ;)  The rules were strict – heels had to be at least 7cm high and a max width of 1.5cm – wedges were most certainly not allowed.

Every contestant walked away with a 6 month Glamour Subscription plus a goodie bag filled with gifts from Revlon and more as well as a charity donation.  And get this, the ultimate winner walked away with a whopping R11000 V&A Waterfront voucher as well as another R4000 voucher from Europa Art shoes.  Yes that’s right, a R15000 shopping spree!  Totally worth risking a broken ankle or two hey…

The hustle & bustle before the races kicked off.

I have to say, signing the indemnity form did make me a little nervous…

For a girl with zero coords, this was certainly a risky endeavour…

But luckily Revlon was there to make everyone feel absolutely amazing with pro-makeup, manis & pedis:

The Mainstay bar was keeping everyone refreshed with their Mainstay boxtails:

Liquid courage for the race…

And we got to get up close & personal with Los Angeles jeans label, Paige.

Known for quality materials & unexpected detailing, this label is known as a world class premium denim brand and A-list celebs just can’t get enough.  People like our very own Charlize, Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, Rihanna, Gwen Stefani, Cameron Diaz and many many more have all been seen rocking Paige denims.

I was quite drawn to that striped pair – it’s got an awesome rocker edge to it.

This is what the striped one looks like on:

And making a booking to visit their showroom which is over in Sea Point (29 Wisbeach Road).

Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the contenders & their stilettos of choice.

Fabulous pair, Arthur Malan from GQ Style & and his partner and editor of Eye of Needle, Jason Basson, was there to respresent the GQ magazine team.  They got their shoes at London fashion week daaahlings:

Absolutely love them…

I chose a pair of colour-block Zara heels (which the boyfriend said was way too flimsy, but it worked best with my overall look, so that was that OK).

I absolutely loved Thandie’s shoes which she sourced over in the US:

And they were nice & sturdy too. The boyfriend would’ve approved…

Bright colours were also very popular:

Lookin’ good ladies, lookin’ good.

And our lovely MC for the day, Liezel van der Westhuizen, looked amazing in a black & gold pair by Europa Art shoes:

After putting on our “Team Paige” Ts, I realised that Sonia Booth was competing against us in the “celeb” race.  And just like that, my hopes of becoming a stiletto run champion were crushed.  I just knew by looking at this ladies pins, I was totally screwed…

Top left: With Sonia. Top right: loved how Sonia matched her nail varnish to her sexy sandals. Bottom: with Clouds & Leigh, ready to sprint.

We first got to watch the Glamour reader races which were quite intense.  These ladies showed pure determination & grit.  No risk of injury was going to sway them from their ultimate goal of being the 2013 Cape Town champion.  Wooha!

stilettorun5

Ready… set… and run for your lives ladies…

We also got to watch the GQ team take on the Glamour team where Jason absolutely murdered the competition:

stilettorun6

Just watch that boy go! I was super impressed… I don’t think I’ve ever moved that fast, ever, heels or no heels.

And then it was time… time for the celeb/blogger race which consisted of (from left to right below):  Nicci Saint Bruce from Citykidssting.com & Bitchesmustknow.co.za,  Clouds from AndLollipops.com, me!, Decleor’s Thandie Kupe, Leigh from LipglossIsMyLife.com and Sonia Booth.

stilettorun7

First we sized each other up… then we had to introduce ourselves to the crowd (no pressure)… Thx to Roy Curitz for sending through these pics of us.

Now I don’t have piccies of the actual race & finish line.  If I source some, I will definitely add them in here.  But what I can tell you is that I came 3rd.  3rd from the back that is! Haha.  Top 3 went to: Sonia, followed by Thandie and then in actual 3rd place, Clouds. Congrats ladies!  They each walked away with a beautiful pair of Paige jeans for their efforts.

Because of my totally poor performance this year, I am going to start working on my fitness now already in preparation for the next one.  Next year I will be a lean, mean, stiletto killing machine I tell you. :)

A huge thanks to the guys & girls at Glamour magazine as well as Jill Grogor and the rest of the team at Zebra Square who coordinated the event.  This was an awesome day which did an awesome thing for a very worthy cause.  High 5s all round!

Cosmo puts on one hell of a show!

On Thu eve I attended the Cosmopolitan SA Lingerie fashion Show 2011.   How did I get in exactly?  Well the lovely Bjorn Steinbach sorted out an invite for me.  You see he got invited because he is Cosmopolitan’s very own Mr December on their 2011 Sexy Man calendar, check it out:

Hotness. AND December happens to be my birthday month!  Bjorn’s not just a pretty face, he’s a talented actor.  Go check out his IMDb link above to see what he’s worked on.

The event took place at the amazing Upper Eastside Hotel in Woodstock.  I had no idea this place even existed, and I was blown away at how impressive this venue was.

There were lots of little stands where you could peruse through sexy lingerie.  Revlon offered mini makeovers and you could even have your photo taken with some Wonderbra hotties.  Triump went for a “live display” option:

Wait, those mannequins move! ;)

I picked up my complimentary Absolut Vodka coctail and we went off to do a bit of exploring and mingling before we were asked to take our seats for the show.  We were very lucky to have 2nd row seats, just look at how excited we were:

Ready to see some hot chicks in some hot lingerie… oh yeah.

The show featured all of the lingerie ranges from the September 2011 Cosmopolitan Lingerie feature.  This included some sexy items from Wonderbra, La Senza, Jockey, After Eden,  Temptations, Shelley, Edgars Free 2BU, Triump, Maidenform & Sloggi.

It opened with quite a bang – very Victoria Secret fashion show inspired, but with a SA twist:

Then Adeline Mucke (accompanied by Albert Frost) did a sexy number for us.  You’ll probably remember Adeline from the SA Idols top ten last year.   I don’t really follow SA Idols, but I was very impressed by her singing ability…  she has a great voice, and clearly she’s also a total bombshell:

I have to just show you a piccie of the stage, was so cool with these huge doors which were opened by some scantily clad muscle boys at the beginning of the show:

I must also note that the models in this show were some of the hottest women I have seen in a long time.  The line-up included big names such at Tracy McGregor & Lieschen Botes and they all made me promise myself that I will be spending way more time in the gym from now on!

From angelic whites we went to some Naughty & Nice lingerie:

Then we got to drool at the absolute hotness that is Aidan Bennetts:

Aidan is not just that hottie from Top Billing and a talented designer.  He also happens to be a Muay Thai champoin, hence the fighter themed ramp appearance.

Then there was some more hot & sexy lingerie:

A mini burlesque show:

And Arno Carstens came out to do a song:

Lastly, the grand finale, all in red:

My favourite biets, Leigh (aka Lipglossgirl) was also amongst the lucky invitees:

Bjorn surrounded by women… lucky man.

And I also got to catch up with fashion blogger, Jasna Zellerhoff (aka Fashionjazz):

Geeze that chick is tall! Poor Leila and I look like dwarves… haha

We got to enjoy some snacks and even got to bust out some moves on the dance floor before we needed to head over to the Global Party at the Fez.   Was having such a great time though, I didn’t really want to leave!

According to the invite, the event was put together by the PR people at Associated Magazines.  For those who don’t know, Associated Magazines publishes Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, House and Leisure & The Oprah magazine.  Fantastic job guys!  Was a seriously impressive event. :)

Check out the Cosmopolitan SA website for all the official event pics.

PS:  I just found a cool piccie on Thunda.com from the party:

The cutie on my left is Siv Ngesi – check him out on the new Castle Lager ad where a group of SA guys head over to London to check out how they do a “braai”.   Love it. ;)
